Clara Barton
Without Clara Barton on the war scene, the Union would have lost many more soldiers. Clara Barton made the Union see that they were loosing soldiers when
they did not have to. What does this mean? How were they dying? Many of the
men were dying of starvation, infection, bleeding out, or dehydration. No one
seemed to see this happening except for Clara Barton. For a year Barton
gathered supplies, and brought them when she joined the war scene. For most
of the war she was a nurse, this is how she got her name, Angel of The Battle
Field. She first got this nickname after the most bloodiest one day battle in
American history, Antietam. After the war was over, she was part of a search and rescue team for missing soldiers. All though they were not very successful,
they did find a lot of missing soldiers dead or alive. After the war ended,
Barton founded The American Red Cross and continued to devote her life to
helping people in need.
